Welcome to
  Halifax Bradley Hall Golf Club

Bradley Hall can be found in the picturesque valleys of the Yorkshire Pennine hills just outside Holywell Green. Although situated less than 5 miles from both Halifax and Huddersfield and just a 5 minute drive from the M62, Bradley Hall is located in over 60 acres of scenic heathland and parkland which boasts a surprising variety of wildlife.

At its very heart is a fine 18 hole golf course with superb greens and challenging approach shots offering a fair test for golfers of all ages and abilities. Complementing the course are practice facilities, a golf shop and a resident PGA teaching professional. Each year we host a dozen Open Events exclusively for club golfers, the highlight of which is our annual festival held during the first week of August

We extend a very warm welcome to new members, visiting parties or pay and play golfers and our great course is complemented by a Grade II listed clubhouse offering fine hospitality, food, beers and wines all year round. The clubhouse is also available for business meetings and private functions

Browse our website to find out just what a great experience Bradley Hall can offer. We are constantly looking to improve our site and our facilities, so if you have any comments or queries just let us know

     A Little Bit About Us

Golf was first played at Bradley Hall in July 1906 when a group of local men started playing on a small piece of rented land near to the present course. The popularity expanded until in 1922 an opportunity presented itself to aquire the lease on the run-down Bradley Hall together with over 100 acres of land from Lord Mexborough

Four thousand pounds was spent converting the old house into a magnificent clubhouse and laying out a new 18 hole course. Since then the club has continued to expand its membership and facilities whilst still retaining the prestige and quality its founders set out to achieve.

  History of Bradley Hall

This area of the site is under development and will include transcripts and photographs from our book 'A Century of Golf 1907-2007' which was produced in our Centenary Year, 2007. The book is available in hardback at a cost of just £6 and can be obtained direct from the Club

  Course

The front nine at Bradley Hall offers an intriguing test of golf over rolling terrain with a heathland quality. Approach shots on a number of holes can be tricky, particularly the stroke one seventh

The back nine is by comparison a little more straightforward and has a parkland feel, but watch out for the 13th with its tree lined ravine lying in wait to gather in the overly ambitious drive. Throughout the 18 holes, the superb greens can be fast in dry conditions and provide a challenge to even the best golfer, especially the "McKenzie's" on the Par3 2nd and 18th

     Hole One
   Par 4 Yardages: White - 353, Yellow - 343, Red - 283

A good steady first drive over the rough and the ponds connected by a narrow stream will set you up well for a round at Bradley Hall. Once on the fairway, the green's only protection is a single bunker short and right. A good opportunity for an opening par on your card

   Par 3 Yardages: White - 117, Yellow - 113, Red - 103

An elevated ‘McKenzie’ green that is protected to the front by a series of steep bunkers. The green is quite narrow and deceptively slopes from right to left

    Hole Three
   Pa r 4 Yardages: White - 327, Yellow - 326, Red - 312

The fairway, which slopes from left to right, cannot be seen from the tee but it is guarded on the left by rough moorland grasses and a wood to the right but a tee shot over the marker post will easily hold the fairway. The green is long and at the back is relatively flat so an accurate second shot can set up a good birdie chance

     Hole Four
   Par 3 Yardages: White - 139, Yellow - 129, Red - 121

The green rises from front to back and has a small pot bunker on the left which is not immediately visible from the tee. A better chance of a birdie by putting up the green

    Par 4 Yardage White - 384, Yellow - 374, Red - 312

The elevated tee to the fairway requires a carry over farmland which is ‘in bounds’. The fairway is generous in size and falls gently down to a relatively flat green

A drive to the right of the fairway, which slopes from right to left, is suggested. A par on this hole is always welcome

Stroke 1 and played into the prevailing wind with a fairway lined on both sides by trees. The green is of reasonable size and relatively flat but a par is not always as easy as it looks – it is Stroke 1 for a reason

   Par 5 Yardages: White - 505, Yellow - 478, Red - 440

Panoramic views from the tee greet you on the first par 5 which is generally a good birdie hole provided that your drive is long and accurate. The trick is to set it out down the right side without fading it into the heather. Again a fairly flat green which can be seen in the distance with a sighting pole visible at its back edge

    Par 3 Yardages: White - 195, Yellow - 185, Red - 151

A longish par 3 played from an elevated tee to a green sloping from left to right. A bunker, not apparent from the tee, is on the right and two bunkers to the left, the second of which is visible

    Par 4 Yardages: White - 326, Yellow - 323, Red - 291.

A straight fairway which slopes gently from left to right is bisected by an open ditch which is easily within range of a well struck drive. The green has bunkers to the front right and back left and one of the tests of this hole are the subtle borrows that are to be found

    Par 4 Yardages: White - 307, Yellow - 285, Red - 281

Trees line the right side of the sloping fairway all the way to a long green.
<SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'; FONT-SIZE: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"> An iron shot from the tee to the plateau and then a further iron to the green is the usual tactic of the lower handicap golfer. There is a 3 club difference from the front to the back of this green

     Hole Twelve
    Par 4 Yardages: White - 363, Yellow - 328, Red - 320

The fairway is lined on both sides by trees and there is a lateral water hazard to the right, however an accurate tee shot sets up an easy approach to the green which has only one bunker to the front left. It does however usually play more difficult than the stroke index of 18 may suggest

     Hole Thirteen
    Par 4 Yardages: White - 411, Yellow - 408, Red - 395

The green is clearly visible from the tee but the ravine which runs from the right to the left is not so. With a strong prevailing wind, it is better to leave the driver in the bag so as not to dice with the ravine. The green is large and has a visible bunker to its right

     Hole Fourteen
    Par 4 Yardages: White - 400, Yellow - 390, Red - 343

A line of trees to the left denotes the ‘out of bounds’ which runs the length of the hole and there is a bunker on the right which is easily reached from the tee. However, a straight drive parallel to the trees leaves an easy shot to a receptive green <SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'; FONT-SIZE: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">

    Par 4 Yardages: White - 390, Yellow - 387, Red - 291

This fairway rises all the way to the small green and the approach usually demands a long and accurate fairway wood. With a small green that slopes from back to front, this hole almost always plays to its stroke index of 2

   Par 5 Yardages: White - 480, Yellow - 478, Red - 378

The second of the par fives is a dog leg to the right with ‘out of bounds’ all the way to and behind the green, guarded at the front by two shallow bunkers. The fairway narrows at the apex of the dog leg and the large trees give some protection to the green. More birdies are scored on this hole by reaching the green with the third shot than attempting it in two

     Hole Seventeen
   Par 4 Yardages: White - 428, Yellow - 368, Red - 348

Out of bounds only to the left and a small but deep pond on the right, the hole is played into the prevailing wind and often the most difficult hole on the course. A long second shot is usually required to the largest green of the entire eighteen

     Hole Eighteen
   Par 3 Yardages: White - 158, Yellow - 156, Red - 146

On paper the final hole looks like a relatively straightforward finish with the only obvious hazard being the ravine which runs almost parallel to the line of play. The only bunker is visible on the left but this guards another McKenzie green. Many a good card has been ruined on this hole. Take care and you may go into the 19th in good spirits! <SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Georgia','serif'; COLOR: #5e5d5d; FONT-SIZE: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'">

  Dress Code

At Bradley Hall, all we ask is for golfers to wear clean, smart and recognisable golfing attire including golf shoes when on the course. In the clubhouse the minimum requirement is clean, smart and dry casual wear which should include a collared or polo necked shirt, socks and footwear. However, as a progressive club reflecting current times, for the comfort of both our members and guests/visitors, since November 2011, clean trainers and smart jeans (including denims) have been allowed in the 19th bar in the clubhouse, (except on specific dress code events), but not in the main lounge or on the golf course

The competition is always full so early entry is advised.

As with all our events, there will be a fantastic prize table with great food and hospitality available before, during and after the golf so come to Bradley Hall in 2012 for an unforgettable experience

CASC (Community Amateur Sports Clubs) Scheme

On Tuesday 11th May the Board arranged for a presentation on the background to the CASC scheme. The Open meeting was attended by approximately 30 members who heard Eric Shrimpton and Allan Teale summarise the merits and implications of registering for CASC status.
After an interesting series of questions and answers the consensus on the evening seemed to be in favor of progressing the CASC registration.
To achieve this objective there will need to be a formal vote by the membership including approval to amendments of the Articles of Association, which can only be done at an Extraordinary General Meeting .
A date for such a meeting is being investigated for early June 2012.
To assist members with their understanding of the CASC scheme, a copy of the document used as the basis for the recent discussions can be seen by clicking HERE

    Juniors - News Update

The British Heart Foundation have organised a Charity Knock-Out Golf Competition. This is a 3 person Junior Team event with the 1st round being played at Halifax West End GC on Thursday 3rd May. Bradley Hall have entered a Team consisting of Lewis Hopkinson, Elliot Lister and Connor Judson. If the club can raise £500 in sponsorship we will automatically qualify for the finals at Close House GC in Northumberland in July.
Junior Organisers Toby Wood and Paul Hesseldon, with the help of the Rabbits Section and friends, have raised £300 to date. Lewis has also raised an additional £168 himself, a remarkable sum and something for which he should be congratulated. With further monies to come from Elliot and Connor this is surely a fabulous effort from all involved.
Should anyone wish to make a contribution to this worthwhile cause and ensure we reach the £500 target please speak to Janet, our Office Manager or telephone Paul Hesseldon on 01484 646910.
POST SCRIPT - Unfortunately the boys did not win on the day, but by virtue of being the highest Team fundraisers automatically qualified for the finals in Northumberland.

   Noticeboard

   Subscriptions - 2012

The basis of calculating the 2012 Subcriptions was agreed at the General meeting held in November 2011. Click Here for a full table of 2012 categories and rates for existing members.

Please note that, in conjunction with the decision to hold subscriptions at current levels until 2014, early payment discounts are to be fully phased out over the next 2 years. The discount applicable in 2012 has been reduced from 5% to 2 1/2%, subject to full payment being made by 31st January, and will be removed completely by 2013.

The early payment discount on subscriptions has been replaced by a new loyalty discount based on 10% of a members net bar sales, including tea or coffee (but not food at present) applied retrospectfully over a 12 month period commencing in November each year. The first discounts of 10% of sales will be applied to subscription invoices from 2013 onwards

Dont forget that the deadline for payment in full was 31st March (unless you have made arrangements to pay by monthly standing order).

Members Handbook &amp; 2012 Bag Tags

The 2012 members handbook is now available and can be collected from the Office, the Bar or the Pro Shop. 2012 Bag Tag stickers are also available now and can be collected as above. Dont forget - if you have changed category to 7 day, 6 day or 5 day, make sure you pick up a new bag tag from the office or pro shop.

  Hole One
  at Halifax Bradley Hall

A good steady first drive over the rough and the ponds connected by a narrow stream will set you up well for a round at Bradley Hall. Once on the fairway, the green's only protection is a single bunker short and right. A good opportunity for an opening par on your card

  Hole Three
  at Halifax Bradley Hall

The fairway, which slopes from left to right, cannot be seen from the tee but it is guarded on the left by rough moorland grasses and a wood to the right but a tee shot over the marker post will easily hold the fairway. The green is long and at the back is relatively flat so an accurate second shot can set up a good birdie chance

The trick is to set it out down the right side without fading it into the heather. The fairway narrows at the apex of the dog leg and the large trees give some protection to the green. More birdies are scored on this hole by reaching the green with the third shot than attempting it in two

The only bunker is visible on the left but this guards another McKenzie green. Many a good card has been ruined on this hole. Take care and you may go into the 19th in good spirits!
